In the world of hydropower, reliability, durability, and efficiency matter - also beyond the turbines. Especially the infrastructure inside a power plant regularly presents operators with complex challenges during renovation measures. That even under extreme conditions an economical, material-preserving, and permanent rehabilitation is possible is shown by a current project in an Austrian storage power plant.
Cooling water pipeline DN 500 successfully rehabilitated - without excavation
The task: Trenchless rehabilitation of a DN 500 cooling water pipeline - accessible exclusively via the machine room.
The solution: A specially developed hose liner, installed by the experienced rehabilitation team of Swietelsky-Faber.
The special features of the project:
- Access to the pipeline via the machine room
- Insertion of the liner drum through the machine hall - custom work under confined conditions
- Rehabilitation of a 90° bend - geometrically demanding
The result: A permanent and tight rehabilitation solution - without intervention in the sensitive building fabric, without interruption of operations, without elaborate dismantling work.
Why trenchless rehabilitation is relevant for power plant operators
Especially in power plants, minimizing downtime and protecting sensitive plant areas are crucial. At the same time, many pipeline systems are located in hard-to-reach places - for example in shafts, machine rooms, or under operational buildings. Swietelsky-Faber offers trenchless solutions with state-of-the-art technologies and decades of experience where conventional methods reach their limits: fast, economical, and sustainable - with specially developed lining systems and precise project planning.
Advantages:
- Minimal downtime
Installation is completed in the shortest possible time - often within a few days - Access via the machine room
Even hard-to-reach pipe systems can be rehabilitated - Smooth inner surface
Reduced friction resistance for optimized flow - Durability & tightness
Qualified materials for high operating pressure and long service life
Preserving infrastructure means securing the future
The maintenance of supply lines in the power plant environment is not a side issue - it is a basic prerequisite for safe operation. Only through targeted rehabilitation measures can the operation of this vital infrastructure be secured in the long term. Swietelsky-Faber relies on modern, environmentally friendly procedures that conserve resources and minimize downtime.
